5 REASONS WHY

Purpose-led companies outperform the
S&P 500 by a factor of 10

case study

We’ve always known we had a purpose or vision beyond simply making money. It drives everything we do and has ensured our excellent reputation in the industry. However, we have never truly articulated what it is. We’ve gone through marketing and branding exercises before, they have come close but never quite hit the mark.

The  challenge

At the beginning of 2024, Eploy stood on the brink of a crucial juncture, striving to enhance and accelerate business expansion. Maintaining a lively and supportive company culture with a close-knit, family-like atmosphere was simple when Eploy had a team of 10 to 20 employees. However, as Eploy expanded, it became increasingly challenging for the founders to convey their vision and values to every team member. A gap started to emerge between those who had grown alongside the founders and newer team members who lacked that direct connection to the vision, resulting in differing levels of alignment with the company's mission. Preserving the culture that initially led to their success became a top priority for the founders.

During this pivotal stage of growth, there was a need for more organizational clarity, alignment, and cultural significance. Despite a strong pre-existing company culture, Eploy had not clearly defined its purpose. Previous marketing and branding attempts were close but lacked an emotional connection to the company's mission, vision, values, and narratives. As the company expanded and the founders relied more on a leadership structure, effectively communicating the company's ethos and culture across various departments became vital to fostering unity in its expansion. It was equally essential that any initiatives developed were authentic to the team and their daily experiences.

solution & approach

Eploy embarked on a Why Discovery process in 5 workshops over 3 months, giving the leadership team enough time and space to discover, distill and embrace their newfound WHY and HOWs. Aside from the importance of discovering and articulating their WHY, the actual discovery process was a powerful experience that brought the team together by sharing and hearing empowering stories. The insights that the process revealed were even more impactful than the objective. The rollout sessions in which the entire company engaged in applying the WHY and HOWs to create new WHATs was a safe environment for the team to share innovative ideas about enhancing the company’s operations, culture, products, and services.

Amy was a great facilitator. She brought the Why Discovery content to life and managed to engage with everyone in the team. It is quite challenging to get 32 senior leaders to embrace their emotional intelligence, but she expertly kept us on track to deliver a successful WHY and HOW’s. Amy also managed to explain the process to the leadership team and made it accessible and easy to understand. Everyone got involved and many people commented on how good the process was, how amazing it was to share stories and how proud they were of each other. People discovered things about each other and the business as a whole that they did not know. They felt empowered and valued and part of a cause.
